Substance Use Disorder
Substance use disorder is a treatable mental disorder that affects a person’s brain and behavior, leading to their inability to control their use of substances like legal or illegal drugs, alcohol, or medications.

Behavioral Health Fund
The Behavioral Health Fund provides funding assistance for individuals who do not have Medicaid, meet eligibility criteria, and need to access substance use disorder treatment.
Individuals seeking assistance should complete the Behavioral Health Fund Request and submit it to the Behavioral Health Case Aide or the Fergus Falls or New York Mills Human Services office.
Comprehensive Assessments
Comprehensive Assessments assess an individual’s functioning across a variety of dimensions. They are primarily targeted at substance use/chemical dependency disorders and provide person-centered recommendations for care. Individuals can receive a Comprehensive Assessment from their choice of provider.

Otter Tail County provides coordination for people who need assistance accessing treatment and substance use resources.
Civil commitment resources
Family members or other interested community members may request a screening for individuals who are presenting a serious danger to self or others due to their chemical use. Contact Human Services to learn more.
