Otter Tail County is offering a recycling program to properly dispose of unwanted or non-working Christmas lights free of charge. Sponsored by the Recycling Association of Minnesota (RAM), Recycle Your Holidays is a program that prevents Holiday lights from entering the waste stream. All strands of lights are disassembled with all appropriate materials being recycled.
The program is promoted statewide in partnership with WCCO, Great River Energy, Ace Hardware stores, and CERTS (Clean Energy Resource Teams). It employs over 200 individuals with disabilities at vocational centers throughout the state of Minnesota. Every part of the strand is dismantled by vocational center clients and properly recycled locally.
Lights are accepted through the end of January and there is no charge to drop off lights.
Holiday lights can be dropped off at the Fergus Falls recycling redemption center during normal business hours:
