Municipal solid waste from Otter Tail County is managed according to the EPA waste management hierarchy which recognizes waste reduction, reuse, recycling, composting and resource recovery as keys to a sustainable waste management system.
Primary Responsibilities & Services
The functions of the Solid Waste Department are to:
- Manage municipal solid waste responsibly according to the established waste management hierarchy
- Provide convenient disposal options to all residents through 6 Solid Waste Transfer Stations
- Provide safe disposal of products hazardous to human health and the environment through the Household Hazardous Waste Program
- Divert waste from landfilling with recycling and composting programs including remote recycling bin sites, composting programs, and collection of agricultural plastic and boat wrap with the Film Plastic Recycling Program
- Reduce landfilling by sending waste to the Perham Resource Recovery Facility
- Educate the public on waste reduction, recycling, composting, and proper disposal through robust education and outreach programming
